The adjoint CSM solver developed in this project enables the efficient calculation of structural gradients. Combined with an adjoint CFD solver, an adjoint multidisciplinary optimization of a radial turbine was performed. The efficiency was improved while keeping the maximum stresses below a defined threshold to ensure structural integrity. Images of the baseline radial turbine design (left) and the optimized design (right) are shown below.
