Salvatore Auriemma

Early Stage Researcher 9 at Opencascade

I come from a small town nearby Naples, Scisciano (Italy). During scientific high school, I appreciated both scientific and literature subjects and, after these years, I realized that engineering studies were right for me. This choice is motivated by my attitude for maths and physics and also by the worldwide opportunities that this profession could offer. I had my Bachelor studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Federico II University of Naples. Concluded the Bachelor, I felt ready to have a personal experience away from home and I went to Milan for studying my Master in Mechanical Engineering (Fluid machines specialisation) at the Politecnico. I enjoyed this period as I could meet new people and deepen my knowledge in fluid machines and energy production. Once completed my Master studies, I had the great opportunity to work for an Italian tractor manufacturer, SAME Deutz-Fahr (Milan area) as part of the engine design team. It was challenging to discover how a big industry is organised together with all the project phases necessary to develop an engine. I spent 1 year and 5 months before joining Open Cascade team for working at the IODA PhD project.

The reasons why I accepted to be part of IODA project can be explained writing something more about me. As explained above the passion for my work, for new experiences and for different cultures are key factors of myself. Furthermore I have always been fascinated by new technologies, how they can improve people life and how they can be involved to develop new and high-performance products. For all these reasons I think that IODA project is the best solution for my personal and professional aspirations. Moreover my hobbies are referred to play and watch football games and I am also interested in theater comedies and literature.

My project is about the Integration of the CAD into the Design loop. In particular I am focused to:

- differentiate the Open Cascade CAD kernel,
- parametrise the test cases,
- develop and differentiate a parametric engine based on OCCT,
- implement the test cases in the parametric engine,
- do a complete optimization using the parametrised test cases and the Open Cascade differentiated CAD kernel coupled with a differentiated CFD tool.
