WHO, WHEN, WHERE

An outreach event was brought to completion on the 4th November 2016, when I went to the High School “Institut Forat del Vent” (Cerdanyola del Vallés, Spain) to deliver an interactive presentation and a paper plane workshop/competition to a group of 50 students studying technology in A levels of the age 17-18 years old.

AIM

The event lasted for 2 hours and the aim was to present the aeronautical engineering world and its challenges to the students & to motivate them to work hard & pursue a career in such an exciting and rapidly evolving field. In the workshop, the students learnt how to make the longest flying paper plane in the world (World Guiness, 1998) and we had a group competition at the end.

OUTCOME

The students recieved the presentation and the worshop very well, as they showed much interest in asking questions. They all participated actively and many of them seeked advice for their future careers during and after the outreach event.

IMPACT

The High School teachers reported a very positive change in the attitude and behaviour of the students who had participated in the outreach event. They have become more serious and responsible about their A level studies at High School,  are more concentrated, motivated and show more interest during the lessons.
