The Big Bang London   3rd November 2015

Drones and hobby aircraft are always an amazement even to Aerospace engineers. The amazement is manifold for school children, who have the curiosity to find out what makes them fly. This was the theme set to our science exhibit at the Big Bang 2015 at Westminster Kingsway College, Kings Cross, London, where I had the opportunity to participate with my colleagues at QMUL, Siamak, Mateusz, Mattia, and Jan Huckelhiem.  The pupils had the opportunity to test various propeller and guess which one lifts more weight.

At the end of the demonstration pupils could see practically why the shape of the propeller was so critical to its lift. To aid better understanding they were allowed to play a computer game were they had the chance to select their propellers for their drones. Overall the exhibit was well received by the pupils. Personally for me the experience of sharing knowledge via this outreach activity was quite satisfying.
