Early Stage Researcher 5 at Engys IT
I was born in 1991 in Athens, Greece and I was raised in Megara, a small town near the capital. During my first schooling years, I was attracted to mathematics and physics. This interest quickly led me to orient my high-school studies likewise. By the end of my basic education I was certain that I should pursue a career as an engineer in order to explore the science fields I was so fond of.
In 2010 I entered the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) where I studied Mechanical Engineering. My first three years at NTUA were dedicated to basic training on Mechanical Engineering such as Structural Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Machine Elements, and Basic Turbomachinery. During those first years, I was attracted to the fields of optimization and design. The following two years were dedicated to Mechanical Design and Aerodynamic Optimization courses. I consider the experience I received during my time at NTUA to be strong with respect to theory as well as practice. At the conclusion of my studies I worked on my Diploma Thesis under Professor K. C. Giannakoglou and his research group at the Parallel CFD & Optimization Unit. In my thesis I dealt with CAD related reverse engineering embedded in optimization cycles.
In March 2015 I completed my studies at NTUA and shortly after I joined the IODA project as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) and I am currently working for Engys in Trieste, Italy supervised by Eugene de Villiers and Paolo Geremia. At the same time I am a PhD student at the Parallel CFD & Optimization Unit under Professor Giannakoglou. My research fields involve CAD based optimization, CAD-to-Mesh and Mesh-to-CAD transition tools as well as user friendly interfaces.
I am very honored and grateful to be given this chance to collaborate with experienced people and in close relation with industries around the globe. Last but not least I have the privilege to collaborate with IODA partners OpenCascade and Kitware.
