Early Stage Researcher 6 at ESI Germany
I was born in 1992 in Athens, Greece and I was raised in Paiania, a small city near the center of Athens. Since I was a child I was very interested in understanding how every technological device works. Depending on this and the fact that during the high school I was very attracted to mathematics and physics, I decided that I would like to become an engineer to explore the fields that an engineer studies and eventually follow my dreams.
In 2010, I entered the school of Mechanical Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). During the first three years, I received the basic knowledge of Mechanical Engineering such as Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Basic Turbomachinery and Fluid Mechanics. In this first years I realized that I was attracted to Optimization methods so the following two years I decided to follow the field of Structural Mechanical Engineering and at the same time I attended a lot of courses regarding Optimization Methods in Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Viscous Flows in Turbomachines. I was fond of for both Aeronautical and Structural Engineering. I believe that the National Technical University of Athens has provided me with an adequate theoretical background to these aforementioned fields.
In March 2015, I completed my diploma thesis which was supervised by Prof. K. C. Giannakoglou and his research group at the Parallel CFD & Optimization Unit. My diploma thesis was about Programming of a Mesh Displacement Method using Radial Basis Functions and a Preconditioner for use in Aerodynamic Optimization. After my completion of my studies, I joined the IODA project as an Early Stage Researcher. I am currently working in ESI Software Germany in Essen, Germany and I am enrolled as a PhD student in the National Technical University of Athens.
I believe that the IODA project is good opportunity for early stage researchers to enhance their knowledge, broaden their horizons and collaborate with professionals and experts in this field. Regarding myself, I feel very grateful that I have this opportunity to participate in such an interesting project in which I have the opportunity to collaborate with experts from all over the world, enhance my knowledge and evolve as an engineer and as a person too.
My topic in the IODA project is “Automated CAD-Free & CAD-Based shape Optimization with immersive visualization”. My main objectives are:
• Implementation of a CAD-Free surface parameterization based on smooth constraints & integrated in the in-house mesh morpher.
• Immersive visualization of adjoint results within IC.IDO including sensitivity maps& adjoint states.
• FD-based CAD gradient from surface to node sensitivity.
