The University of Paderborn University (UPB) with approx 20 000 students is guided by the central principle "University for the Information Society". The strong fields of scientific computing, information systems and computer applications plus
the interdisciplinary presence of IT in many of its subject areas create an outstanding foundation for the pursuit of this principle.

Dr. Andrea Walther (andrea.walther@uni-paderborn.de) is a full professor in the Institute of Mathematics at the UPB. Her research concentrates on the development and efficient implementation of algorithmic differention as well as on structure-exploiting algorithms for nonlinear optimisation. She takes part in research projects within Germany and the EU.
