National Technical University of Athens

NTUA will host ESRs 7 and 8 at the NTUA campus, Athens, Greece.

NTUA is a world-class university with 9 Schools and more than 5000 students per School. NTUA has a strong Engineering department developing (especially at the Parallel CFD & Optimization Unit, PCOpt/NTUA) computational methods. Focused research on (parallel, running even of GPUs) CFD, numerical optimisation methods, incl. continuous and discrete adjoint, on OpenFOAM and the in-house GPU-enabled software. Original work on the differentiation of turbulence models in continuous adjoint, on the computation of higher order derivatives, Truncated Newton, unsteady adjoint, etc. Partner in INGENET, HISAC, ACFA2020, HYDROACTION, AQUAGEN, ABOUTFLOW ITN, RBF4AERO projects funded by EU. Direct funding from automotive and turbomachinery industries. Key Research Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment include a large HPC cluster and a GPU cluster for exclusive use by the PCOpt/NTUA.

Key Staff:

Prof. Kyriakos Giannakoglou (kgianna@central.ntua.gr) is the Director of the PCOpt/NTUA. Since May 2007, he is the Chairman of the ERCOFTAC (European Research Community of Flow Turbulence and Combustion) Special Interest Group SIG34 on Design Optimization. He has authored 65 Journal papers, ~100 Conference papers and chapters in several books. PCOpt/NTUA is supported by experienced researchers on adjoint-based design optimization methods (Dr. D. Papadimitriou, Dr. E. Papoutsis-Kiachagias, Dr. V. Asouti, Dr. X. Trompoukis) who will contribute to the training of the ESRs.
