My outreach activities consisted of the following events:
- "Adjoint theory & Solver in OpenFOAM", German OpenFOAM User Meeting March 2017 & Februar 2018: In this event, attended by users and developers of the opensource CFD software OpenFOAM, I had the opportunity to discuss with OpenFOAM'ers coming from a wide range of research fields, about the importance of the adjoint method. After explaining the adjoint theory and its formulation, I demonstrated the ways in which any user of OpenFOAM can start applying this methodology to her/his own optimisation problems in fluid dynamics. With starting point the default source code of the OpenFOAM adjoint solver, I enhanced the code, in order to deliver more accurate results, and also shared useful "tips & tricks" for beginners and advanced users. Links to the event in 2017 and in 2018.
- Presentation to students of MINTerface Program, November 2017: This presentation was attended by university students of the MINTerface program, focusing on the research fields of Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Engineering. The goal of my presentation was to demonstrate to the students how the combination of different science disciplines can lead to new technological advances. After mentioning subfields that belong to the four aforementioned main disciplines, I presented how each and every of these must be applied, in order to tackle an industrial problem, namely the prediction and improvement of the aeroacoustic performance of a vehicle.
- "Volkswagen PhD student's day" 2016 & 2017: In this event, PhD students of Volkswagen AG have the opportunity to present their research projects with posters. Visitors include experts and managers from the Volkswagen Group, as well as invited professors.
