Turbomachinery Aerodynamic and Multidisciplinary Optimization Nov 2016
The workshop on Turbomachinery Aerodynamic and Multidisciplinary Optimization covered the state-of-the-art trends in the turbomachinery optimisation both in the industry and academia. Experts from both fields shared their best practices, tools, and methods used in their respective research. A key focus of the second day of the workshop was optimisation under uncertainty (robust design). Surrogate models and their use, limitation, and possible future extensions were brought out with industrial test cases. The second day of the workshop concluded with the TU Berlin stator challenge summary of results.
The workshop brought out the serious need in the industry for aerodynamic and multidisciplinary optimisation tools to explore highly efficient design in a large design space. Key areas such as uncertainty quantification, surrogate models, and multidisciplinary objectives were identified as the future trends in the industry. The final day of the workshop was an interactive session on Turbomachinery aerodynamics that helped every ESR to get up to speed to start turbomachinery optimisation on their own.
